Ask an AI assistant about your own training

“How does my running this autumn compare with last autumn?” is a question an AI assistant can answer well, if it can see your training. FitKeep lets it, through MCP, with your approval and nothing more.

What MCP is

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside tools and data. An MCP server offers a set of tools, each with a description, and the assistant decides which ones to call while it works on your question.

FitKeep runs an MCP server. Once your assistant is connected, it can look things up in your FitKeep account the way you’d look them up in the app.

How the connection works

  1. In your assistant, add a custom MCP server with FitKeep’s address. You’ll find it under Settings → Applications in FitKeep
  2. Your assistant sends you to FitKeep. Sign in there if you aren’t already
  3. FitKeep shows a consent screen with the application’s name and the address it will send access to. Select Authorize, or Deny to stop
  4. The assistant gets an access token for your account and nothing else

Only authorize a connection you started yourself a moment ago. Any application can register under any name, which is why the consent screen also shows where access will be sent.

You sign in on FitKeep’s own page, so your assistant never sees your FitKeep password. Assistants that support Dynamic Client Registration, which includes Claude, set themselves up automatically, so there’s no API key to copy around.

What the assistant can look up

These are the tools FitKeep offers over MCP. Every one of them reads data. None of them can change anything.

ToolWhat it returns
list_activitiesYour activities, filtered by type and date
get_activity_detailOne activity: elapsed and timer time, laps with heart rate, pace, cadence and power, pauses, the device, and how it ranks against your other activities of the same type
list_best_effortsYour fastest times at a standard distance, optionally only those under a target time
get_activity_type_summaryEach activity type you have and how many activities of it
get_activity_summaryTotals for the last 7 days, the 7 days before that, the last 30 days and all time
get_period_statsWeek-by-week or month-by-month volume, pace, heart rate and elevation over a date range
list_goalsYour active goals and how far along you are

get_activity_detail doesn’t return GPS points or per-second samples, so your assistant never receives your routes.

Questions that work well

The tools are built for questions about patterns across your training, where reading the data yourself would take a while:

  • “How many sub-25-minute 5Ks have I run this year?” The assistant asks list_best_efforts for efforts under 1,500 seconds and gets the count back directly
  • “Compare my weekly running distance over the last 12 weeks with the same weeks last year.” Two calls to get_period_stats, one per period
  • “Was my last long run’s heart rate higher than usual?” list_activities to find the run and similar ones, then get_activity_detail on each
  • “How am I doing on my goals?” One call to list_goals

Limits

Read-only. The assistant can’t create, edit or delete anything. FitKeep’s own AI Coach can draft goal changes for you to confirm, but those tools aren’t offered over MCP at all.

Your data only. Every tool call is scoped to the account that approved the connection.

Rate limits. Each assistant connection is rate-limited. The limit is set well above what a normal conversation needs, so you’d only notice it if something went wrong.

Your assistant’s provider sees the answers. Whatever the tools return goes to your assistant, and from there to the company that runs it, under its terms. FitKeep can control what the tools return, not what happens to it afterwards.

Revoking access

Settings → Applications lists every assistant you’ve approved, when you approved it and when it last used your data. Select Revoke and the assistant is cut off on its next request, even if its access token hasn’t expired yet. You can approve it again later.

Connecting an assistant is free for every FitKeep account. Connect an AI Assistant with MCP has the address and step-by-step setup.
